Commercial solar
Commercial solar for Tasmanian businesses
Cut your operating costs, use more of your own power and make better use of your roof.
We design and install commercial solar systems for Tasmanian businesses, from smaller workshops and offices through to warehouses, agricultural properties and larger commercial sites.
Every system is designed around how your business actually uses electricity, not just how much roof space you have.

Why commercial solar makes sense
For many businesses, a large portion of electricity is used during daylight hours, which is exactly when your solar system is producing power.
That means more of the electricity you generate can be used directly on site instead of being exported back to the grid.
Depending on your business, solar can help reduce:
- Daytime electricity costs
- Exposure to future energy price increases
- Demand on the grid
- Your overall operating costs
It can also make sense for businesses planning to add EV charging, electric equipment, batteries or other higher-energy infrastructure in the future.
New from 1 October: the federal STC rebate for solar now extends from systems up to 100 kW to systems up to 1 MW. That means eligible larger commercial systems can get significantly more upfront support, and many larger commercial installs could see around 20% lower upfront costs.

Commercial systems designed around your usage
There is no standard commercial solar system.
We look at your electricity bills, operating hours, roof space, existing electrical setup and how your power usage changes throughout the day.
From there, we can recommend a system that suits your site and your budget.
That could mean a smaller commercial installation for a local business, or a much larger system designed around significant daytime energy use.
Warehouses and industrial sites
Large roof areas can create a great opportunity for solar, particularly for businesses running machinery, refrigeration, lighting or other equipment throughout the day.
We can assess the available roof space and design a system around the site's actual energy demand.
Farms and rural businesses
Tasmanian farms and rural businesses can have very different electricity requirements to a standard commercial property.
Pumps, sheds, refrigeration, workshops and other equipment can all contribute to high energy use.
We can assess the site, understand how and when power is being used and design a system accordingly.
Offices, retail and small business
Commercial solar is not only for large industrial sites.
Offices, retail stores, hospitality venues and smaller businesses can also benefit where there is consistent daytime electricity use.
A properly sized system can help offset a meaningful portion of those operating costs.

Commercial battery storage
Battery storage may also make sense for businesses that want to use more of their solar outside daylight hours or improve how energy is managed across the site.
We can look at whether a battery is worthwhile as part of the initial installation or whether it makes more sense to design the solar system so one can be added later.
Cheaper Home Batteries Program
Business batteries get the discount too
Businesses can get the same battery discount and solar certificates as households. We apply them to your quote, so there's nothing for you to apply for.
The discount steps down every six months
Certificates per kWh of usable capacity, on the first 14 kWh. Set by your install date.

We look after the whole process
We can handle the project from initial assessment through to installation and connection.
That includes reviewing your energy usage, designing the system, organising the required approvals and paperwork, completing the installation and making sure you understand how the system is performing once it is running.
And because we're a Tasmanian family business, you're dealing with people who actually know the local market and will still be around after the installation is finished.

One of the easier parts of building a new house with solar. If you prefer no fuss and straight to the point service, then my hot tip is to give Rest Energy a buzz. George was beyond helpful, concise, and when a later issue popped up (due to the house and not the solar), he immediately was in contact to resolve it. I rarely leave a review on anyone, unless the product and service went above and beyond.Posted on Google![]()

My partner and I can thoroughly recommend George and his team in the highest possible way. From the initial discussions to establish our needs, to the quoting process, then the installation itself, things could not have been smoother from our side. This industry does receive bad press because of dodgy operators, this is certainly not the case with Rest Energy Tas, professional in all dealings, on time installation and then always there for ny ongoing queries, not that we have had many as the hand over we received was very extensive. We can only say talk to Rest Energy with his highest recommendation John RPosted on Google![]()

After the great installation of 10kW of solar panels and a Myenergi system 4 years ago by George we decided to take advantage of the recent battery support package and get a FranklinWH system for backup installed. This has a long warranty on all parts. Great work by George with all the tricky work done in one day.Posted on Google![]()

Excellent Service and Fantastic Results! George and his team at Rest Energy installed our solar system in the middle of last year, and we couldn’t be happier with the results. Over summer, we actually had a credit on our power bill, and throughout winter our bill has been minimal. The system has exceeded our expectations in terms of performance and savings. The service has also been outstanding—George has been quick to respond to any questions we've had, and his support has been consistent from installation through to follow-up. Highly recommend Rest Energy for anyone considering going solar!
FAQ
Commercial solar questions
Is solar worth it for my business?
If your business uses most of its power during the day, usually yes. We size the system to your actual consumption, so you use most of what you generate instead of exporting it cheaply.
Can businesses get the battery discount?
Yes. Businesses and community organisations can get the same battery discount and solar certificates as households, and we apply them to your quote.
Are there tax benefits?
Talk to your accountant about depreciation and any tax incentives that apply in the current financial year.
Do you work on farms and rural sites?
Yes. We design grid-connected, hybrid and off-grid systems for sheds, dairies, workshops and pumps, including ground-mounted arrays.
