Cheaper Home Batteries Program

See what you could save on a home battery

Through the federal Cheaper Home Batteries Program, eligible home batteries come with a discount off the upfront cost. It works with new or existing solar, and we apply it to your quote, so there's nothing for you to apply for.

The discount steps down every six months

Certificates per kWh of usable capacity, on the first 14 kWh. Set by your install date.

May to Dec 2026

6.8 certificates per kWh

Jan to Jun 2027

5.7 certificates per kWh

Jul to Dec 2027

5.2 certificates per kWh

If you prefer no fuss and straight to the point service, then my hot tip is to give Rest Energy a buzz. George was beyond helpful, concise, and when a later issue popped up (due to the house and not the solar), he immediately was in contact to resolve it. George and his team at Rest Energy installed our solar system in the middle of last year, and we couldn’t be happier with the results. Over summer, we actually had a credit on our power bill, and throughout winter our bill has been minimal. The system has exceeded our expectations in terms of performance and savings.

FAQ

Solar questions we get asked a lot

Is solar worth it in Tasmania?

For most homes, yes. Winter output is lower than on the mainland, but long summer days and rising power prices still make solar pay. The trick is sizing it to what you use during the day: every kWh you use yourself saves approximately 31 cents per kWh on Aurora’s standard rate, while exporting it earns approximately 9 cents per kWh.

How much is the battery discount?

The discount depends on the battery system, its usable capacity and the current program settings. It applies to eligible batteries between 5 and 100 kWh, tapers above 14 kWh and steps down every six months. We apply it to your quote, so you don’t need to apply.

Do you work outside Hobart?

Yes. We install across southern Tasmania, quote anywhere in the state and do off-grid work on rural properties.

Is the Energy Saver Loan Scheme still running?

No. The Tasmanian Government’s Energy Saver Loan Scheme closed to new applications on 1 September 2025. Ask us about other ways to finance your investment.
